Date made: 1941

Place made: Douglas

Description: A model of a ship housed in a painted crab shell. Marked 'Prisoner of war souvenir' and 'Made by A.Pellosini, Douglas 1941.' Belonged to donor's father Gordon Brown who died 2020 aged 96. His father ran a tobacconist's shop on Douglas promenade during the Second World War, and the item was probably bartered for cigarettes (J.C. Brown, 2 Marina Road). The ship is a two funnelled steamer with a gun mounted at the stern facing rearwards.

Pellosini was in Metropole Camp in 1941. He is thought to have been a merchant seaman as he does not appear on the 1939 Register. Angelo Pellosini with date of birth matching that on Home Office index card entered New York 1947 to work for Marine Transport Lines, occupation given as Boatswain. An Angelo Pellosini also appears on a crew list as 1st Cook aboard the SS 'San Juan' arriving in New York in February 1957. He was an Italian with passport number SB25565 (Ancestry).
