Description: Archibald Knox designed wooden writing desk or bureau. Given as a wedding present by Archibald Knox to fellow Manx artist Alfred James Collister (A. J. Collister), who was married in 1901. The writing bureau is in the Arts and Craft style, and has a fold down writing flap and a small compartment decorated with the initials A J C 1901 and a Celtic interlace pattern, with gold gilding. The rear of the cupboard doors are decorated with Celtic interlace designs and are gilded gold. Inside the double doors are three small drawers. The sides of the desk are also decoated with celtic motif. The desk was donated to the Manx Museum by the great-grandsons of A. J. Collister, from the estate of their late mother Patricia Van Hear (granddaughter of A. J. Collister).
