Painted silk square from an internment camp

Date made: c.1941

Description: Silk square painted by donor's mother Jeanette Kitzler whilst interned at Rushen Camp during Second World War. She was a Jewish refugee born 1905 in Vienna, she arrived in Britain in 1938. The silk shows the outline of the Isle of Man with significant landmarks noted, with lettering 'Internment May 1940/1941'. (unfinished edges)
