Silver writing box presented to Hall Caine
Date made: 1915
Description: A silver writing box presented by Heinemann & co to Hall Caine in 1915, to mark 25 years as his publisher. The top is engraved 'on the completion of twenty-five years of friendship and cordial relations in business.' It carries facsimile signatures of William Heinemann and Sydney S.Pawling.
The inside of the lid is engraved with the titles of the novels published by the company, and the date of each in roman numerals. The box is hallmarked inside the lid. Inside the silver pen tray is detachable as are two glass inkwells.
The underside is also hallmarked, and carries a maker's mark: Carrington & co 130 Regent Street, London W.
