Description: The Villa Marina stands in its own grounds on the promenade in Douglas on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23829 47630).
Ward Lock's Guide to the Isle of Man of 1950 says, "Villa Marina Park, an estate of about 8 acres purchased by the Corporation in 1909 for £60,000 for the purpose of providing accommodation for high-class entertainments. The grounds are well laid out, and include flower-beds, bowling greens, etc. The Royal Hall contains a first-class ballroom where there is dancing nightly during the season...A band plays daily and events such as Bathing Beauty Competitions are staged. In fine weather open-air concerts are given, while thousands of people seated on the beautiful lawns and terraces enjoy the music and the delightful view." (p.40)
