Gaiety Theatre (Douglas)

Description: The Gaiety Theatre stands on the promenade in Douglas on the east coast of the Isle of Man (NGR 23823 47610). Brown's Guide to the Isle of Man of 1900 says, "At the north end of the Sefton Hotel Buildings, is The Pavilion, one of the pleasure resorts of Douglas, in which a succession of the most popular variety shows takes place in the season. Adjoining The Pavilion, are the studios of two of the leading local photographic artists..." (p. 71) Brown's Popular Guide to the Isle of Man of 1919 says, "At this point, we again follow the margin of the Bay and proceeding along the Harris Promenade - the continuation of the Loch Promenade northward, past the fine block of buildings forming the Sefton Hotel, the Gaiety Theatre (one of the prettiest theatres in the Kingdom..." (p.51)
