Notes: Born in Hamburg in 1921, as a Jewish refugee she emigrated to England in July 1939, pages 15 to 25 deal with the authors internment at Port Erin during World War Two, where she taught French and English classes, and made and sold Nosound ear plugs before her release in 1941. After marriage she emigrated to Nigeria where this autobiography was published. A facsimile of a Testimonial letter signed by Camp Commandant Joanne M. Cruickshank follows p.148, stating that Miss Hilda Gerson has helped teach both French and German in the camp.
