Biography: Seaman William Edward Riley of the Royal Naval Reserve, a native of Castletown, was lost at sea on 26 March 1918. His vessel, HMS Lady Cory Wright, was sunk by a U-boat off the Lizard, Cornwall. She was previously a civilian steamer, requisitioned by the navy in 1914. At the time of her loss she was carrying mines, depth charges and detonators from Plymouth to Malta. She went down with the loss of all but one of her crew. (Image ref: PG/13743/54).
