Biography: Gunner Robert Garrett of Douglas was serving with B Battery 122nd Brigade Royal Field Artillery, when he died on 24 June 1916. The Royal Field Artillery used teams of horses to pull its guns, and tending to the needs of the animals was part of the job of an artilleryman. The story in his family in the years following his death was that Garrett was accidentally trampled by one of the battery horses whilst doing this. He is buried at St Pol Communal Cemetery Extension, south west of Bethune. (Image ref: PG/14501/1).
