Scope & Content: Extracts from unpublished diary lent by Captain J. Fry-Goldie-Taubman of the Nunnery in 1948. The typescript extract concerns the period between 15 February and 26 June 1823 and relates to the building of Nunnery House, Braddan. The extract mentions costings of the new house, the architect Mr. Pinch, and praise for the plans in the Gothic style. The foundations for the new house were laid on 31 May and the foundation stone was laid on 26 June; 'the poor old house is condemned' and Isabella mourns the loss of the 'dear old house'.

Administration / Biographical History: Isabella Curwen Goldie (1781-1824) was the wife of Alexander John Goldie. The couple married on 21 February 1804 at Braddan. She was the daughter of John Taubman and Dorothy Christian. In a handwritten covering note, Basil Megaw describes the original diary, mentioning others by the same diarist. The diary was lent to him, possibly in his capacity as Inspector of Ancient Monuments.
