Typed extract from the 'Memoirs of Major Charles Crigan'

Scope & Content: Undated extracts written by Major Crigan's sister Sarah and published in 1864 for private circulation. There are descriptions of properties connected to the family including Cronk Urleigh and Cly Een, a description of a visit back to the island by her brother Charles and information about an inscription on the back of a print of the Crigan family . On a separate sheet is a memorandum of a letter written by Mary Smelt Crigan, daughter of Rev. Alexander Crigan and Mary Smelt, daughter of Cornelius Smelt, which comments on her grandfather's Governorship and describes visiting Castle Rushen (Smelt being the last Governor to reside at the castle).
Administration / Biographical History: Major Charles Crigan was the son of Bishop Claudius Crigan of Sodor and Man, c.1779-1809. He died of wounds received during the retreat to Corunna in the Peninsula Wars. For a related printed book see M 22702; G88/CRI
