Age 42, Angus Martin is a graduate this year from the Clubman's races; he is a garage proprietor and comes from Dunchurch, near Rugby. His road racing career goes back to 1936, and he rode in the Carrowdore and Enniskillen '100's' in 1936, '37 and '38.

In the Isle of Man Clubman's races he finished 35th in the 1951 Senior, 29th in the 1952 Junior, 11th in the 1953 Junior and 34th in the same year's Senior event after a fifteen minute stop at Laurel Bank. Last year he retired on the first lap of the Junior Clubman's event with a missing wheel nut.
