Biography: Age 23, David (Dai) Williams is an aircraft structural engineer and comes from Leighton Buzzard, Beds. He has ridden at Blandford, Castle Combe, Silverstone, Thruxton, etc., with 1st, 3rd and 4th places. He was second in the 1958 500 c.c. Snaefell race at 84.95 m.p.h. and was only eight seconds behind the winner. In the Senior Manx of the following Thursday he finished 11th at 86.21 m.p.h., collecting a replica. In 1959 he was 23rd in the Junior and retired in the Senior, whilst last year he was 21st in the Junior, but retired again in the Senior.
Dai tells us that the machines he is riding are owned and prepared by Mr. Mularney, of Leighton Buzzard, who really makes them go. The 350 is a 1959 model whilst the 500 is 1957 or '58, but, writes Dai "like m - grandfather's hammer it has six new heads and eight new handles." The 350 is fitted with a five-speed gear-box which is being tried out in practice. (TT Special, 7 September 1961, p.18)
