Trophy presented for Manx Parish Churches Walk

Description: Silver bowl (trophy) with black ebonised wooden base (nb base and trophy are separate). Silver plaque on base engraved: 'Presented by Mr & Mrs G.F.Clucas for Manx Parish Churches Walk May 1913 won by H.Bridson 18hrs 56 minutes.'
Harry Bridson was the father of the donor. He set a record time which stood for at least 10 years. Mona's Herald 4 June 1913 gives Bridson's address as 'Cronkbourne, Braddan'. It also records that, 'At the Palace the same evening Bridson was presented, as his reward, with a fifteen-guinea trophy, the gift of Mr G.F.Clucas.'
His full name according to the 1911 Census would appear to be Robert Henry Bridson, born c1868, occupation clerk.
The Parish Walk is a walking race that takes place on the Isle of Man each year, usually on the weekend nearest to the Northern Summer solstice. It is the biggest walking event on the island.
The Parish Walk is so called because the route passes through all of the island's seventeen parishes, covering a total distance of 85 miles (137 km). Originally, walkers had to touch the door of each of the seventeen parish churches, which are all still visited but nowadays electronic timing chips are worn. A time limit of 24 hours is given, and there are cut-off times for reaching each stage.
