Biography: Age 29, John Joseph Wood (better known as 'Jackie') is a native of Douglas, Isle of Man, and was a recruit to the 1956 TT by way of the Manx Grand Prix; Jackie has, in fact, gained six replicas from past MGPs, his best placing being third in the 1955 Junior race.

He has ridden in local trials and scrambles, but is best known for his road racing activities; in 1955 he was winner of the Junior class of the North West 200 and of both 250 cc and 350 cc classes of the Leinster 200.

In 1956 he rode a 350 Velocette in both Junior and Senior TT races. He retired on the sixth lap of the Junior, but finished 24th in the Senior at 86.76 mph and won a Silver Replica. Last year he was unlucky, for he started in three TT races - Junior, Lightweight and Senior - and retired in all of them. Jackie is entered by Ater Bros. Ltd for both races.

He has ridden in local trials and scrambles, but is best known for his road race activities; last season he was winner of the Junior class of the North-West 200, and of both 250 c.c. and 350 c.c. classes of the Leinster 200.

Entered by Geoff Duke, Jackie is riding a machine with quite a history, for though the year of manufacture of the engine is unknown, it is certain that it was in Bill Lomas’s possession as far back as 1949. The frame and streamlining are of Geoff Duke’s own design and the machine goes sufficiently quickly to have featured on the Practices Leader Board.
